Established as a community centre, Thornton Church of Christs supports people in need in the local community through:
- The Paddock Coffee Cart runs as an outreach of the church providing coffee and light meals to the public and to the mothers and fathers who attend the play group. As well the coffee cart operates as a training facility to train young people especially those who are disadvantaged to gain meaningful employment. We now have three people who have been trained and gone on to either have fulltime or part time employment.
- Mum’s play group – the provision of a local nurse to give support and guidance to mums regarding babies’ health and breast feeding.
- Free tutoring once a week for family who are disadvantaged or suffering financial hardship or just falling behind in school.
- Thornton Community Garden. The garden now is well established with up to forty people involved and now we are seeing people who attend the play group crossing over and becoming involved in the garden. The River Project has been established to setup and provide community support services to marginalised people in the Albury and surrounding areas of Albury including – Lavington, Springdale Heights, North Albury and South Albury as well as regional towns within commuting distance of Albury.
