Southern Cross Kids Club (iCentral)
Southern Cross Kids Club has been running since 2009. Our vision is to be one of hope through God’s love, an ongoing support and a consistent caring community, offering life skills and encouraging healthy social interaction within every attending child’s life. As we make things, play games, cook and learn we have seen strong connections made and deep conversations had between kids and their buddies.
Some ex-campers have continued with the program, serving as ‘cousins’ to the kids, and being trained as future leaders. Watching them grow in character and guiding them has been a privilege. The transformation taking place in their lives is exciting – communicating well to problem solve together and to think of others before themselves, are things they would have found difficult 3 years ago!
Every Wednesday afternoon about 16 children come along to Homework Club where they are personally tutored in Maths and English. We have a fantastic group of volunteer tutors who are committed to being there each week to encourage and teach. Watching the kids grow in confidence, in social skills and seeing how much they appreciate spending time with an older person who cares for them, makes coming to Homework Club so worthwhile.
