Southern Cross Kids Camps
For some people, the reality that a child’s quality of life is directly related to their adult capacity to attain their potential is a sad one.
This is particularly true for children who have been subjected to abuse, neglect or domestic violence. For these children, the future often holds suicide attempts, anxiety and depression, dissociative disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness and juvenile delinquency.
Motivated by a desire for these children to become adults who flourish, Southern Cross Kids Camps was established in 2000 to bring about life change for children who have experienced dysfunction. The annual camps aim to make a significant difference in these children’s journeys towards wholeness and believe that disadvantaged children deserve to be given every opportunity to grow up to become resilient and productive members of our society, despite the adversity they have encountered.
To a child who’s been abused or neglected, spending a week in a safe, care-free environment can be life-changing. Children are paired with an adult Buddy to ensure they receive outstanding and undivided attention and a week of happy memories. Camp always has plenty of great activities such as horse riding, swimming, craft activities, everyone’s birthday party, stories, singing, have a go show, special camp t-shirt and soft toy.
After a week enjoying activities that encourage fun and laughter, children leave with fresh perspectives for dealing with their past, additional life skills for the present and much-needed hope for the future.
